Carpenter Ant Control
Carpenter ants are a destructive type of insect attracted to homes and businesses throughout the Spring Hill and Greater Tampa Bay Areas, as well as many other locations throughout Florida. A single colony of these ants can number into the hundreds of thousands. As each member of the colony chews away the wood to excavate living quarters, serious structural problems can develop.
About Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are usually easy to identify when you see them. These ants have just one node in their waist and an evenly rounded thorax. In addition, carpenter ants tend to be longer than the typical sugar ants. If viewed closely, you will see the large jaw structures on the head portion of the ant; it is this structure that chews up the wood for use as a nesting site.
Signs of Damage
In the process of excavating their living quarters, carpenter ants often leave behind a small pile of what looks like saw dust. You might also find ant parts such as wings or the bodies of dead ants. Once the ants have nested in the wood of your home or business, the wood may look weakened. The wood will sound hollow if you tap it.
Where Carpenter Ants Are Common
Carpenter ants are common throughout the Greater Tampa Bay and Spring Hill areas. Around your home or business, you will find them in moist areas where they have access to moist wood.
